He assessed the entire house, gave me options and clearly explained the process. Everyone from Mike, to the secretary in the office to the workers were absolutely amazing. They did the work as promised, gave us a reasonable price, and left the place immaculate. We could not be happier with the results! This is a great family owned business. You can’t go wrong!Posted on Google rose smithTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The work was done with the utmost professionalism and competence. The service representative was very thorough in examining the dehumidifier, air purifier and sump pump and provided any service needed including draining the pump.Posted on Google Craig TodaroTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mark took it upon himself to come to my home and examine my issue himself. He is knowledgeable not only in basement waterproofing, but also in land grading, excavating and several other adjacent topics. While it was concluded my issue was not foundation oriented, he did not hesitate to propose several other creative ideas to help address my issue. He has a great disposition, and I would not hesitate to recommend his services to others.Posted on Google Linda RussoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I bought my house 24 years ago, and for 24 years I lived with water coming in to my finished basement. A few years back I hired another company to put in a French Drain System which never worked. As the storms got worse the water in my basement increased. Because of my previous experience I was hesitant to hire another company until I read about ACM and met Mark who was highly recommended by my Home Service Company. Mark spent about 2 hours explaining the process, and what was needed. In February 2025 ACM put a extensive French Drain System which included taking down the sheet rock walls, demoing tile and placing a membrane along the whole perimeter of the drain system. All of this work was completed in 3 days exactly what Mark said. The guys were professional, polite, and best of all they were careful to save my Radiant Heating System which was under the tile. Since the French Drain System was placed I have not had 1 drop of water coming into my basement. I am very grateful to Mark's ACM Company, and was able to refinish my basement without fear of water damage. I highly recommend ACM Basement Water Proofing to all who are having water problems with their basement.Posted on Google Maria LacosteTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. ACM Basement Waterproofing did an excellent job in my basement, no more water intrusion. The job was handled professionally and on time. I am happy to recommend them.Posted on Google William RothsteinTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I chose ACM because of their "Best of Long Island" award, and I'm glad I did. Mark's crew (led by Joe) installed an interior French drain and a sump pump in our basement. Six months later, we've had no problems with water. These guys know what they're doing.Posted on Google Links2282Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I would like to say thank you to Mark and his team for their excellent work installing a French Drain in our finished basement. For years we had to worry about flooding if we got a large amount of rain in a short time. The entire staff was totally professional. knowledgeable, competent and efficient. They were clean and caring and after each day they protected the whole worksite. Without a doubt, we would recommend them for all your basement waterproofing needs.Posted on Google Peter WebbTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I called acm after finding water in the basement. Mark answered the call and quickly helped diagnose the issue. He guided me to check baseboard and sure enough a broken valve was causing this leak. It's good to find someone to help a homeowner without rushing to take their money. It's good to find a honest business man
Basement Water Solutions
Water leaking through a basement wall is a common sign of hydrostatic pressure building beneath your home. At ACM Basement Waterproofing, we identify the source of the leak and recommend a permanent repair tailored to your foundation, not a one-size-fits-all solution. Family-owned on Long Island for 30 years and BHA certified, we offer free inspections to homeowners throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
We make it simple, affordable, and stress-free — with guaranteed results.
Leaking basement walls are one of the most common waterproofing problems we inspect across Long Island, and it’s not something to wait out. A wet wall today can mean a cracked foundation, mold, or a flooded basement down the road.
If you’ve been searching for leaking basement wall repair near you, we offer free inspections to find out exactly what’s causing the water and what it will take to stop it for good.
Every basement wall below ground level sits under constant pressure from saturated soil, what we call hydrostatic pressure, and it’s behind the vast majority of leaks we see. Concrete is naturally porous and lets water through as it ages and picks up hairline cracks. Block foundations have their own weak spot: the hollow cores in cinder blocks fill with water and work their way out through the mortar joints. Leaks also show up often at the cove joint, where the wall meets the floor.
What you see on the wall is just the symptom, not where the water actually entered below grade. It often travels behind finished walls or through block cavities before becoming visible, especially once drywall and flooring hide its path, so the spot where you notice moisture isn’t always where it got in.
Long Island’s climate and geology put more pressure on basement walls than most of the country sees. The island gets roughly 44 to 45 inches of precipitation a year plus another 25 to 30 inches of snow each winter, and it varies by region: southern Nassau County averages around 40 inches annually, west-central Suffolk closer to 50. Spring snowmelt adds another surge right as the ground thaws, recharging groundwater just as many basements start to leak.
Groundwater is the bigger story, though. Long Island has a naturally high, shallow water table, and the island’s aquifer is also its sole source of drinking water, supplying 100% of what Nassau and Suffolk use. During inspections, hydrostatic pressure turns out to be the cause far more often than an isolated crack. Homeowners usually point to the crack they can see, but it’s often just where the water found a way through once pressure had already built up.
A few local factors compound it:
Two homes on the same street can behave completely differently after the same storm. We’ve seen one house stay dry while the one next door takes on water, simply from small differences in elevation, fill, drainage, and how close groundwater sits beneath each lot.
Some signs of a leaking basement wall are obvious. Others build up slowly and get written off as normal. Watch for:
When these warning signs appear, it’s time to schedule a professional inspection.
A leaking basement wall rarely stays a small problem for long, especially in a climate as wet as Long Island’s. Mold takes hold quickly in a damp, low-airflow basement, and once it’s established in drywall or framing, it’s a bigger job than the original leak ever was. Flooring buckles, drywall stays stained, and left long enough, ongoing moisture can weaken the foundation itself.
We’ve found that addressing groundwater pressure early often prevents the more extensive repairs that come later.
Foundation Wall Cracks
Foundations crack as they settle or as pressure builds over time, and even a hairline crack can let water seep through steadily during heavy rain. We repair these by injecting epoxy or polyurethane directly into the crack, sealing it from the inside out.
Poor Yard Grading
If the ground around your foundation slopes toward the house instead of away from it, every storm sends rainwater right where you don’t want it. This one gets missed constantly since it isn’t a plumbing problem or a crack, just dirt sloped the wrong way, but regrading can cut wall pressure more than people expect.
Window Well Leaks
A window well without proper drainage fills up like a bucket during a storm, sending water straight against the foundation and through the window frame. Usually a drainage system or a well cover is all it takes to fix.
Gutter and Downspout Problems
This is the cause we see missed the most. Clogged gutters, or downspouts that dump water two feet from the foundation instead of six, quietly feed the exact problem homeowners are trying to solve.
Failed Footing Drains
Footing drains run along the base of the foundation to carry water away before it builds up. Many of the homes we inspect in Nassau County still rely on original footing drains installed decades ago, and once those systems deteriorate, groundwater pressure has nowhere to go but toward the wall.
Aging Foundations
Older foundations were built with different materials and standards than homes today, and decades of freeze-thaw cycles and shifting soil add up. Generally, the older the foundation, the more likely it is to be dealing with some form of water intrusion.
No two basement leaks are exactly alike, and repairing one properly usually calls for more than a single product or patch. Many of the basements we inspect don’t have just one issue. It’s common to find a combination of hydrostatic pressure, poor grading, an aging footing drain, and a crack or two all contributing to the same leak. Depending on what we find during an inspection, a plan typically combines several of the following:
Interior French Drain Systems relieve hydrostatic pressure by intercepting water before it can push through the wall, redirecting groundwater to a sump pump before it ever reaches your finished basement.
Sump Pump Installation gives that collected groundwater somewhere to go. A French drain without a working pump has nowhere to send the water it collects, so the two are installed as a pair. We also recommend testing your sump pump regularly and adding a battery backup before storm season.
Foundation Crack Repair addresses cracks acting as direct entry points, injecting the crack itself rather than skimming a patch over the surface.
Carbon Fiber Reinforcement comes into play when a wall shows signs of movement or bowing, binding the wall together under tension so soil pressure outside no longer has room to push it further inward.
Yard Grading reduces the amount of surface water reaching the foundation in the first place, before it ever gets close to your walls.
We don’t recommend an interior drainage system just because a wall is wet. If groundwater is affecting multiple areas of the basement, addressing the pressure itself is usually the more effective long-term fix. Together, these systems form a complete plan, designed by our Certified Waterproofing Specialists around what your home actually needs.
During an inspection, we’re not just looking at the wet spot. We evaluate grading, downspout discharge locations, foundation movement, cove joints, and existing drainage systems, the clues that explain why water is entering in the first place. One of the more common surprises is finding water actually entering at the cove joint, even though the homeowner is convinced it’s coming through the middle of the wall.
It’s also common for a homeowner to call us about a single wet wall, only to find during the inspection that groundwater pressure is affecting multiple areas of the foundation. We’ve learned that the visible leak is rarely the whole story, which is why we identify why the leak is happening before recommending repairs. That’s the difference between a fix that lasts and one that just buys you a few dry months.
ACM Tip: Water isn’t always entering where you see it. Groundwater often travels behind a finished wall for several feet before it becomes visible, which is why finding the true entry point matters more than guessing based on where the stain shows up.
ACM Basement Waterproofing has been family-owned and operated on Long Island for 30 years. We started as a small local operation with one goal: give Long Island homeowners a waterproofing company they could actually trust. That hasn’t changed.
We’re licensed and insured in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties and a member of the Basement Health Association, and our team includes Certified Waterproofing Specialists, a credential that requires passing an exam covering hydrogeology, construction, and safety, plus ongoing continuing education. We’re also one of only a few companies in all of New York State to receive the BHA’s Star Award.
If you’ve been searching for basement wall repair near you or near me, ACM Basement Waterproofing is based in Islip and serves homeowners throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties. We offer free inspections so you can understand exactly what’s causing your leak before committing to any repair, no obligation.
Why is water coming through my basement wall? Most often it’s hydrostatic pressure pushing groundwater through porous concrete, cracks, or the joint where the wall meets the floor.
Can leaking basement walls be repaired permanently? Yes, when the underlying cause is identified and addressed, whether that’s pressure relief through drainage, crack injection, or structural reinforcement, rather than just sealing the surface.
Do I need a French drain, and can it be done from the inside? It depends on the source of the leak, but almost all repairs can be done from the inside. Interior systems like French drains and sump pumps address hydrostatic pressure directly without excavating around the foundation, which is why they’re usually the preferred solution on Long Island.
Can wall cracks cause leaks? Yes. Even small cracks can let water in steadily.
How much does basement wall repair cost? Costs vary depending on the cause and extent of the problem. A free inspection gives you an accurate, specific estimate rather than a generic range.
Is a leaking basement wall dangerous? It can be. Beyond mold and air quality concerns, ongoing water intrusion can weaken a foundation over time.
How quickly should I repair a leaking wall? As soon as possible. The longer water intrudes, the more damage it causes to your foundation, belongings, and indoor air quality.
Why choose ACM Basement Waterproofing? Thirty years family-owned on Long Island, an A+ BBB rating, and one of only three companies in New York State to hold the Basement Health Association’s Star Award.
A leaking basement wall doesn’t fix itself, and the sooner the source is identified, the less damage it causes. With Long Island receiving roughly 44 to 45 inches of precipitation a year and many neighborhoods sitting over a naturally high water table, basement wall leaks rarely resolve on their own. Contact ACM Basement Waterproofing today to schedule your free inspection and get a clear plan for a dry, protected basement.
