He assessed the entire house, gave me options and clearly explained the process. Everyone from Mike, to the secretary in the office to the workers were absolutely amazing. They did the work as promised, gave us a reasonable price, and left the place immaculate. We could not be happier with the results! This is a great family owned business. You can’t go wrong!Posted on Google rose smithTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The work was done with the utmost professionalism and competence. Mark took it upon himself to come to my home and examine my issue himself. He is knowledgeable not only in basement waterproofing, but also in land grading, excavating and several other adjacent topics. While it was concluded my issue was not foundation oriented, he did not hesitate to propose several other creative ideas to help address my issue. He has a great disposition, and I would not hesitate to recommend his services to others.Posted on Google Linda RussoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I bought my house 24 years ago, and for 24 years I lived with water coming in to my finished basement. A few years back I hired another company to put in a French Drain System which never worked. As the storms got worse the water in my basement increased. Because of my previous experience I was hesitant to hire another company until I read about ACM and met Mark who was highly recommended by my Home Service Company. Mark spent about 2 hours explaining the process, and what was needed. In February 2025 ACM put a extensive French Drain System which included taking down the sheet rock walls, demoing tile and placing a membrane along the whole perimeter of the drain system. All of this work was completed in 3 days exactly what Mark said. The guys were professional, polite, and best of all they were careful to save my Radiant Heating System which was under the tile. Since the French Drain System was placed I have not had 1 drop of water coming into my basement. I am very grateful to Mark's ACM Company, and was able to refinish my basement without fear of water damage. I highly recommend ACM Basement Water Proofing to all who are having water problems with their basement.Posted on Google Maria LacosteTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I chose ACM because of their "Best of Long Island" award, and I'm glad I did. Mark's crew (led by Joe) installed an interior French drain and a sump pump in our basement. Six months later, we've had no problems with water. These guys know what they're doing.Posted on Google Links2282Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I would like to say thank you to Mark and his team for their excellent work installing a French Drain in our finished basement. For years we had to worry about flooding if we got a large amount of rain in a short time. The entire staff was totally professional. knowledgeable, competent and efficient. They were clean and caring and after each day they protected the whole worksite. Without a doubt, we would recommend them for all your basement waterproofing needs.Posted on Google Peter WebbTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I called acm after finding water in the basement. Mark answered the call and quickly helped diagnose the issue. He guided me to check baseboard and sure enough a broken valve was causing this leak. It's good to find someone to help a homeowner without rushing to take their money. It's good to find a honest business man

Water issues in your crawl space can seriously impact your home’s structural integrity and your family’s health. Learning to recognize these warning signs can help you address problems before they escalate into costly repairs. Here are the key issues to look out for that indicate your Long Island crawl space may have water problems.
We make it simple, affordable, and stress-free — with guaranteed results.
Crawl space water problems rarely announce themselves with an obvious flood. More often they show up as small, easy-to-miss clues, a faint smell here, a soft floorboard there, that quietly get worse over months.
The signs below are the ones Long Island homeowners notice most. Spotting even one of them early can be the difference between a simple fix and a major repair.
A distinctive musty smell wafting up from your crawl space is often the first sign homeowners notice. This unpleasant odor indicates the presence of moisture and potential mold growth beneath your home. If you detect these smells, particularly during humid Long Island summers or after rainfall, it’s time to investigate your crawl space conditions.
The appearance of mold or mildew in your crawl space signals a serious moisture problem. These fungi thrive in damp environments and can spread rapidly across wooden supports, insulation, and other surfaces. Long Island’s humid climate creates perfect conditions for mold growth, which can affect your home’s air quality and trigger health issues for your family.
Puddles, wet spots, or consistently damp soil in your crawl space indicate active water intrusion. Even small amounts of standing water can create significant problems over time. Whether from groundwater seepage or plumbing leaks, any visible water in your Long Island crawl space requires immediate attention to prevent structural damage.
Moisture-damaged wood in your crawl space threatens your home’s structural stability. Look for discolored, softened, or visibly warped wooden supports. When crawl space moisture attacks these crucial structural elements, it can compromise your home’s foundation and lead to expensive repairs if not addressed promptly with expert Long Island crawl space repair.
Corroded metal hardware, ductwork, or plumbing components in your crawl space indicate excessive moisture levels in your Long Island crawl space. Rust on these elements not only suggests current water problems but can lead to system failures and additional repair costs. Regular inspection of metal components helps identify moisture issues early.
Beads of water on pipes, ductwork, or other surfaces signal high humidity levels in your crawl space. This condensation can drip onto the ground or building materials below, creating secondary moisture problems. Proper crawl space waterproofing and humidity control are essential for preventing condensation issues.
Moisture issues often manifest as problems in your living space. Watch for buckling hardwood floors, spongy carpets, or uneven surfaces. These symptoms typically indicate that crawl space moisture has begun affecting your home’s structural components and requires professional evaluation.
Damp crawl spaces attract a variety of pests seeking moisture and shelter. If you notice insects, rodents, or evidence of their presence, it often indicates underlying moisture problems. These pests can cause additional damage to your home’s structure and create unhealthy living conditions.
White, chalky deposits on concrete or block walls indicate water moving through these materials. This mineral residue, known as efflorescence, appears when water evaporates from masonry surfaces. While common in Long Island crawl spaces, its presence suggests active water infiltration that needs to be addressed.
You can spot many of these warning signs yourself before calling anyone. If you are comfortable doing a quick check, here is what to do safely:
Take photos of anything that looks off. If you see standing water, widespread mold, or major wood damage, stop and call a professional rather than disturbing it. ACM offers free crawl space inspections across Nassau and Suffolk County and can tell you exactly what those signs mean for your home.
Not every crawl space symptom needs a same-day call, but some do. Treat it as urgent if you find standing water after a storm, a sudden strong sewage or mildew odor, mold spreading quickly across the joists, or floors above the crawl space that have started to sag or feel unstable.
These point to active, advancing damage where waiting even a few weeks makes the repair larger and more expensive. Slower signs like minor efflorescence or light condensation are still worth addressing, but they give you a little more time to plan. If you are unsure where your situation falls, ACM can take a look and help you prioritize.
I only notice the musty smell sometimes. Is it still a problem?
Yes. Crawl space odors often get stronger with humidity or after rain and fade in between, but an intermittent smell still means moisture and likely mold are present. The smell is the symptom, not the problem itself.
Can I have a crawl space water problem without seeing any water? Absolutely. Many homeowners never see standing water. High humidity, condensation, musty odors, and efflorescence can all signal a moisture problem even when the soil looks dry. Water damage is often happening out of sight.
How quickly do these warning signs get worse?
It varies. Mold and wood rot can advance noticeably within a season in Long Island’s humid climate, while efflorescence or minor condensation may progress more slowly. The trouble is that none of these signs improve on their own, so early action always costs less.
Should I be worried if I see just one of these signs?
One sign is enough to justify a closer look. Crawl space symptoms tend to be connected, so a single musty odor or one patch of efflorescence often means more is going on than you can see. A free inspection clears up the uncertainty.
Are crawl space mold and odors a health risk?
They can be. Mold spores and the damp air from a crawl space travel up into your living space, and they can aggravate allergies, asthma, and general respiratory discomfort, especially for sensitive family members.
